Episerver Reinforces Data Protection with EU-US Privacy Shield Certification and New Appointment
Global Content and Commerce Platform Provider Builds on Certification and Appoints New Global Data Protection Officer
Episerver, a global provider of a single platform to smartly manage digital content, commerce and marketing in the cloud, has reinforced its commitment to data protection and privacy on behalf of its customers, with a new certification under the U.S. Department of Commerce’s EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework and the appointment of Episerver’s general counsel and vice president Peter Yeung to the newly created role of global data protection officer (DPO).
The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework, developed jointly by the European Commission and U.S. Department of Commerce, provides a regulated system for commercial transatlantic data flows between the European Union and the United States, guiding how global organizations process and protect personal data between European Union and United States entities and citizens. Both the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield certification and the appointment of a global data protection officer are part of a larger security and compliance initiative at Episerver to ensure comprehensive preparation for the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation, which that strengthens European consumers’ data protection rights, and carries penalties that go into effect in May 2018.
“A company-wide, security-minded ethos drives Episerver’s everyday commitment to data protection and privacy,” said Peter Yeung, general counsel and global DPO at Episerver. “Security, compliance, data protection and privacy should enhance and improve business results, not impede it. Privacy Shield Certification is just one of many ongoing initiatives to reinforce Episerver’s commitment to data protection and privacy and market leadership in cloud security.”
The announcement comes on the heels of Episerver’s recent appointment of Sue Bergamo as chief information officer (CIO) and chief information security officer (CISO) to lead Episerver’s information security efforts and ensure customers may continue to access Episerver’s platform in compliance with internal security, compliance, governance and privacy requirements.
Episerver has consistently invested in data protection, privacy and cloud security and previously launched the Episerver Trust Center, highlighting security, compliance and privacy controls in one place to protect customers’ personal data.
“Privacy and data protection are paramount to business in the digital age, and our dedication to information security goes beyond our Privacy Shield certification,” said Mark Duffell, president and CEO of Episerver. “Our continued growth and success stems from our ability to invest strategically in our products and recognize new opportunities for investment while ensuring they are secure and easy-to-use for our customers. We are committed to delivering secure business applications in the cloud and our new leadership will execute this vision moving forward.”
The Episerver Digital Experience CloudTM is built to meet enterprise-level security, data protection and privacy requirements, compliance laws, and regulations on behalf of Episerver’s empowered global customer base. Episerver monitors and reviews all global data, privacy and protection laws and regulations, and ensures that foundation technology, such as Microsoft Azure™, which already offers far reaching operational security assurance, has additional security and privacy credentials.
